Donald Crockett's And the River for two piano soloists and orchestra, jointly commissioned by the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Oberlin Conservatory and the Aspen Music Festival, received its premiere May 12 of 2018 with the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra.
Peng-Peng Gong's Symphony No. 10: Peking Fantasy, will receive its U.S. Premiere on January 29 with a joint Chinese New Year concert featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra led by Kensho Watanabe, side by side with the Shanghai Philharmonic, Liang Zhang conductor, at Kimmel Hall. The work is a grand orchestral homage to Peking Opera, the crowning heritage of traditional Chinese performing arts.
The Riverside Symphony and pianist Xak Bjerken, under the baton of George Rothman, gave the New York premiere of Stephen Hartke's Concerto for Piano and 20 players, Ship of State, on 11/16/2018, the fourth performance since the World Premiere. On December 12, 2018, his cello concerto Da Pacem received its premiere at Oberlin under the baton of Robert Spano with cellist Darrett Adkins. David Schiff's suite of four pieces by Duke Ellington entitled DUCAL SUITE was dedicated to and premiered by David Shifrin and the Dover String Quartet on July 26, 2017, presented by Chamber Music Northwest. Schiff's arrangement for clarinet and string quartet is a sophisticated urban cocktail.
