The Philadelphia Orchestra, with members of the Shanghai Philharmonic, gave the January world premiere of Peng-Peng Gong’s Symphony No. 10, Peking Fantasy. The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote of the work: ”...direct musical language...gorgeous...highly original sounds...vivid episodes.”  Six World Folk Songs and his Symphony No. 8 were premiered by the Shanghai Philharmonic on April 27th.  See full videos and the composer's playlist.

Kenneth Fuchs was awarded the 2019 GRAMMY®for Best Classical Compendium for his NAXOS album Piano Concerto Spiritualist, Song Cycle Poems of Life, Electric Guitar Concerto Glacier, and the Alto Sax Concerto Rush.  This is Fuchs’ fourth GRAMMY® nomination and his first win.

Stephen Hartke’s cello concerto, Da Pacem, will be performed at Aspen Music Festival on July 17 under the baton of Robert Spano. The work is enjoying its second performance in its opening year. Hartke’s music is featured on several concert programs in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, including his double-GRAMMY® winning composition, Meanwhile. William Bolcom and Joan Morris were honored with the Arts Alliance Medals for Arts, Sciences & Humanities Lifetime Achievement medal on February 11, 2019. The award comes as composer William Bolcom's 2019-20 concert calendar includes performances of his Concerto in D for Violin by the Milwaukee and St. Louis Symphony Orchestras, and his Trombone Concerto with soloist Joe Alessi. Bruce Adolphe’s Are there not a thousand forms of sorrow?  for string quintet was commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The World Premiere will take place on October 27 at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, New York. The composer also received a commission from another venerable chamber music institution, the Da Capo Chamber Players, to celebrate the ensemble’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.
