ONE OF A KIND was written for a farewell performance by clarinetist David Lewis on the occasion of his retirement from Ohio University. It attempts to blur the boundaries between "serious" music and various popular styles.   In three movements, plus an opening cadenza, the piece exploits the sound of the clarinet with a "virtual perpetual motion machine" sound, jazz and blues, and Klezmer style.
