Peng-Peng Gong's "Metropolitan Overture" was a joint commission of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. The premiere concert on May 22, 2016 was both to open the five-year artistic collaboration between the two orchestras, and also to welcome the grand opening of the Shanghai Disneyland. The work is a jubilant merge of Shanghai folk-music and Disney-style scores, making it an excellent concert opener or encore.
