This story takes place during the summer around 1920.  The title character Lucinda, who hails from a rural Hoosier farm, desperately wants to attend college.  Instead of receiving encouragement from her friends and family, however, is encouraged to follow the more traditional path of the times- that of marrying and raising a family.  This opera, with libretto by Heather Ross Miller, addresses the questions and conflicts that arise for Lucinda, and the path she finally chooses.
