Commissioned by The Provence Society and dedicated to flutist Laurel Ann Maurer, Invocation is based on Cooman’s earlier works  for flute (or alto flute) and organ.  "Invocation" is defined in the dictionary as "a prayer used in invoking, as at the opening of a religious service."  It is this mood which drives the work.
