A Greeting Cadenza for William Primrose, Op. 65
LKMP S520001/ HL 40261
Written at the behest of friends, colleagues, and students of the late William Primrose, this short piece for solo violin was intended to celebrate his 65th birthday and his nomination as the "Artist Teacher of the Year" by the String Teacher's Association. The has rhapsodic character and highlights both the virtuosic and expressive qualities of the viola. Its changing moods are tied together by subtle suggestions of the tune "Happy Birthday to You." It draws from its thematic substance in the same manner as the solo cadenza of a concerto; hence the title of this piece.
