Written for Alex Fiterstein, Duet is a rather unusual piece in that the main section is a double fugue, whose themes come from Robert Parris's Trombone Concerto and Yehudi Wyner's Serenade.  The work begins with a Prologue and ends with an almost identical Epilogue.  These sections -  like the fugue itself, which is in two voices and alternates between two registers -  maintain the "duet" idea by alternating two kinds of material, one very fast in the low register, the other slower and more lyrical in a higher register.
