The Blue Studio (Portfolio for Violin, Violoncello, and Piano)

The title of this work is a dual reference to the Matisse masterpiece painting “Studio with Goldfish,” as well as to the wall color of the composer’s home studio. Imagined as a sort of “studio visit,” the listener becomes a visitor leafing through the movements as if a portfolio of drawings, separated by interludes representing the brief, quiet transition from image to image.
